Imagine being a local Mauritian company yet having access to global technology resources from Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is the cloud computing part of Amazon.com? Imagine further that the cloud IT resources expand on demand to accommodate seasonal peaks and that it scales within minutes to support the growth of your company, all on a pay-as-you-go model? Jay Ramsurrun, Managing Director of ECCS and certified consulting and training partner for AWS, trusts that the array of 165 services offered by AWS, coupled with online trainings, will bring heightened agility, cost-effectiveness and security to companies of all sizes.

“Whether you are a start-up or a major public or private company, investment in the technological system and equipment involves a significant cost. However, the hardware becomes obsolete at a fast pace while the software needs to be regularly updated, in a context of increased security breach threats,” he points out. As an international consultant in IT systems working extensively in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) zone, Jay Ramsurrun observes that Amazon Web Services provides a highly protected and secure cloud infrastructure, with scalable server resources. “Most companies of the public and private sector would find it very costly to invest in equipment and software to reach such standard.”

The Managing Director of ECCS notes that the pay-as-you-go model for AWS services allows a better control over the operational expenses of the IT department while ensuring access to state-of-the-art technology. In turn, this allows for better budget-planning for essential capital expenditures, with access to more than 165 services that range from compute, storage, networking, database, analytics, application services, deployment, management, developer, mobile, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), security, hybrid and enterprise applications.

While the customer experience is user-friendly, AWS also provides a network of certified consulting partners, such as ECCS in Mauritius, in order to build up the portfolio of services which best correspond to the needs of Mauritian companies. Jay Ramsurrun underlines that AWS provides extension of services and data handling capacity within a few minutes, adding that the elasticity demonstrated during peak or off-peak periods is truly an asset. The web service is called Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and provides resizable computing capacity—literally, servers in AWS’s data centers—to build and host software systems.

As a certified AWS consultant and training partner, Jay Ramsurrun asserts that this solution is applicable to many public, private and parastatal companies in Mauritius, especially those who need to cater for peak season activity, such as hospitality, local authorities and distributive trade, amongst others. He adds: “Start-ups are concerned also as these days, we can observe that online sales can explode overnight if there is a sudden buzz.”

AWS also features its Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), and a company has the choice of the location of the data center where it wishes to host its data. Today, AWS spans 69 Availability Zones within 22 geographic regions around the world. With regards to Data Protection legislation, Jay Ramsurrun explains that AWS is compliant to serve all sectors and make extensive use of all international standards such as ISO.

ECCS also works extensively in the EMEA zone. Jay Ramsurrun explains: “Many international companies have set up their headquarters in Mauritius and ECCS can intervene directly in the subsidiaries whether they are in Europe, the Middle-East or Africa.” ECCS training is MQA-approved.
