BAIE DU CAP Estates (BDCEL), situated at la Prairie, was incorporated on the 18th of June, 1952. The company employs around 30 skillful people for activities such as quarrying of stone, mixed farming, hunting, trapping, processing and preserving of meats and many more. Baie du Cap Estates Ltd is a family business and has seen several transformative developments, from starting as a sugarcane estate to becoming the only calcarenite mine in Mauritius. In 1989, Baie du Cap Estates Ltd began its mining operations of calcarenite which until this day has provided calcium based products such as sand and landscaping granules to different stakeholders across the island.

Since 2010, sugarcane production has stopped giving way to extensive deer farming, hunting. Furthermore, palm and coconut trees were planted and form part of the company’s agri-business. In 2017, Baie du Cap Estates Ltd became the holding company of several business units. Macondé Mining Ltd was the largest subsidiary producing Calcarenite but the functions of this company unit is now under Baie du Cap Estates Ltd.
