Local market posts gains during the week

The local stock market posted gains during the week. The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI moved up by 0.42% and 0.46% respectively at the end of the days under review (9 - 16 May 2016).
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, registered a growth of 27.68 points in one week, closing the session of Monday 16 May 2016 at 6,057.72 points. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,785.53 points against 1,778.07 points last Monday. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 343.44 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 99.16 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 201.95 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions during the week amounted to Rs 133 million. The top five traded securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), Terra Mauricia Ltd (TERA), Lux Island Resorts Ltd (Lux) and Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 26.1 million, Rs 17.8 million, Rs 13.3 million, Rs 10.2 million and Rs 9.6 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, SBM, TERA, Lux and IBL closed at Rs 212.00, Rs 0.69, Rs 30.30, Rs 58.75 and Rs 120.00 on Monday 16 May 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 59 stocks figuring on the Official List, 17 moved up during the week, 27 remained stable and 15 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Lottotech Ltd (+13.51%), Gamma-Civic Ltd (+10.62%), SBM Holdings Ltd (+6.15%), MDIT Ltd (+4.08%) and United Docks Ltd (+3.47%).
