Local market registers important gains

u003cpu003eu003cstrongu003eThe local stock market registered important gains during the week. The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI moved up by 2.47% at the end of the days under review (25 January – 2 February 2016).u003c/strongu003eu003c/pu003eu003cpu003eThe Total Return Index, SEMTRI, gained 151 points during the week, closing the session of Tuesday 2u003csupu003endu003c/supu003e February 2016 at 6,259.69 points. On a year-to-date basis, the SEMTRI maintains a growth of 150.5 points, i.e. 2.46%. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,852.76 points, registering a growth of 2.30% on a year-to-date basis. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 356.11points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 99.59 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 206.35 billion at market close on Tuesday.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eTotal transactions amounted to Rs 136.9 million during the week. The top five traded securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), MCB Group Ltd-Notes, New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH) and Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 73.8 million, Rs 11.8 million, Rs 9.9 million, Rs 9.1 million and Rs 6.8 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, MCBG-Notes, NMHL, SBMH and IBL closed at Rs 208.25, Rs 1,024.87, Rs 23.80, Rs 0.68 and Rs 131.25 on Tuesday 2u003csupu003endu003c/supu003e February 2016.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eAn analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 56 stocks figuring on the Official List, 12 moved up during the week, 29 remained stable and 15 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (+19.90%), Ireland Blyth Ltd (+18.24%), Belle Mare Holding Ltd (+10.16%), Fincorp Investment Ltd (+7.50%) and Sun Resorts Ltd (+3.22%). The worst performers were: Lottotech Ltd (-1.73%), Mauritius Union Assurance Co.
