Market ends week in negative territory

u003cpu003eu003cstrongu003eThe local market was marked by a fall in market indices during the week. The SEM-ASI and the SEMTRI-ASI lost -0.46% and -0.41% respectively at the end of the days under review (10 – 17 October 2016).u003c/strongu003eu003c/pu003eu003cpu003eThe Total Return Index, SEMTRI-ASI, lost 26.09 points during the week, closing the session of Monday 17 October 2016 at 6,298.09 points. The all share index, SEM-ASI, ended the same session at 1,843.28 points, losing 8.51 points in one week. The SEMDEX and the Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday at 1,825.45 points and 6,291.83 points respectively. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 348.56 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 101.90 points. The total market capitalisation of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 334.46 billion at market close on Monday.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eTotal transactions amounted to Rs 251.2 million during the week. The top five trading securities were: SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), CIEL Limited, Omnicane Series 4 and Series 2 Notes. They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 80.6 million, Rs 50.3 million, Rs 33 million, Rs 32.9 million and Rs 9.3 million respectively.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eAn analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 64 stocks figuring on the Official List, 10 moved up during the week, 41 remained stable and 13 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were:United Basalt Products Ltd (+4.49%), POLICY Ltd (+2.62%), Belle Mare Holding Ltd (+2.58%), Caudan Development Ltd (+2.04%) and Mauritius Oil Refineries Ltd (+1.48%).
