Market ends week in negative territory

The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI lost 1.71% and 1.63% respectively at the end of the days under review (16 – 23 May 2016).u003c/strongu003eu003c/pu003eu003cpu003eThe Total Return Index, SEMTRI, lost 98.69 points in one week, closing the session of Monday 23 May 2016 at 5,959.03 points. The All-share index, SEMDEX, ended the same day at 1,755.06 points. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, finished at 337.68 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the session at 97.17 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 198.51 billion at market close on Monday.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eTotal transactions during the week amounted to Rs 112 million. The top five traded securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), CIEL Limited (CIEL), Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL) and Rogers u0026amp; Co. Ltd (ROGE). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 67 million, Rs 11 million, Rs 7.2 million, Rs 3.5 million and Rs 3.3 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, SBM, TERA, CIEL, IBL and ROGE closed at Rs 206.00, Rs 0.68, Rs 6.12, Rs 122.75 and Rs 26.00 on Monday 23 May 2016.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eAn analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 62 stocks figuring on the Official List, 7 moved up during the week, 31 remained stable and 24 went down.
