Market ends week in negative territory

The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI lost 0.72% and 0.70% respectively at the end of the days under review (9 – 16 August 2016).u003c/strongu003eu003c/pu003eu003cpu003eThe Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Tuesday 16 August 2016 at 6,247.32 points, losing 43.99 points in one week. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,817 points. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 348.26 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 99.25 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 217.06 billion at market close on Tuesday.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eTotal transactions during the week amounted to Rs 124.7 million. The top five traded securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), Lux Island Resorts Ltd (Lux), Omnicane Ltd and Caudan Development Ltd (CAUD). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 65.4 million, Rs 17.2 million, Rs 9.5 million, Rs 5 million and Rs 4.9 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, SBMH, Lux, Omnicane and CAUD closed at Rs 208.00, Rs 0.70, Rs 58.00, Rs 67.00 and Rs 1.19 on Tuesday 16 August 2016.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eAn analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 64 stocks figuring on the Official List, 12 moved up during the week, 38 remained stable and 14 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Compagnie des Magasins Populaires Ltée (+15.29%), Air Mauritius Ltd (+7.03%), Promotion and Development Ltd (+4.68%), Caudan Development Ltd (+2.59%) and National Investment Trust Ltd (+2.45%).
