Market ends week slightly down amid heavy trading

u003cpu003eu003cstrongu003eThe local market was marked by a slight fall in market indices amid heavy trading during the week. The SEM-ASI and the SEMTRI-ASI lost -0.06% and -0.05% respectively at the end of the days under review (17 – 24 October 2016).u003c/strongu003eu003c/pu003eu003cpu003eThe Total Return Index, SEMTRI-ASI, lost 3.33 points during the week, closing the session of Monday 24 October 2016 at 6,294.76 points. The all-share index, SEM-ASI, ended the same session at 1,842.17 points, losing 1.11 point in one week. The SEMDEX and the Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday at 1,821.07 points and 6,277.41 points respectively. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 348.34 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 102.30 points. The total market capitalisation of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 334.26 billion at market close on Monday.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eTotal transactions amounted to Rs 496.8 million during the week. The top five trading securities were: MCB India Sovereign Bond ETF (MCB ETF), CIEL Limited, MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd EURO Notes and SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 222.1 million, Rs 109.8 million, Rs 93.8 million, Rs 8.5 million and Rs 8.1 million respectively. The shares of MCB ETF, CIEL, MCBG, NMH EURO Notes and SBMH closed at USD 10.68, Rs 6.06, Rs 220.00, EUR 988.79 and Rs 6.88 respectively on Monday 24 October 2016.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eAn analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 64 stocks figuring on the Official List, 11 moved up during the week, 34 remained stable and 19 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were:MCFI Ltd (+5.25%), United Basalt Products Ltd (+3.23%), CIEL Ltd (+3.06%), BlueLife Ltd (+1.94%) and Phoenix Beverages Ltd (+1.90%).
