Market ends week slightly down

The local market was marked by some volatility in the evolution of market indices during the week. The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI dropped -0.14% at the end of the days under review (18-25 May 2015).
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, lost 8.98 points in one week, closing the session of Monday 25th May 2015 at 6,489.87 points. The All-share index, SEMDEX, ended the same session at 1,972.73 points against 1,975.46 points a week earlier. The SEM-10 index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 375.76 points. The market capitalisation stood Rs 219.32 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions reached Rs 188.2 million during the week and the top five traded securities during the week were: New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL), MCB Group Limited (MCBG), Sun Resorts Ltd (SUN), CIEL Limited (CIEL) and Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 42.4 million, Rs 23.6 million, Rs 18.8 million, Rs 18.6 million and Rs 14.4 million. The shares of NMHL, MCBG, SUN, CIEL and IBL closed at Rs 63.00, Rs 204.75, Rs 42.40, Rs 7.38 and Rs 114.00 on Monday 25th May 2015.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 52 stocks figuring on the Official List, 8 moved up during the week, 25 remained stable and 19 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Go Life International PCC (+33.33%), CIEL Limited (+6.34%), Terra Mauricia Ltd (+5%), ENL Commercial Ltd (+1.82%) and United Docks Ltd (+0.76%).
