Market ends week slightly up

The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed at 1,694.58 points. The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 327.83 points. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 167.58 billion.u003c/pu003eu003cp style=text-align: justify;\u003eTotal turnover amounted to Rs 166.3 million during the week. Shares of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL), State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (SBM), Alteo Ltd and Mauritius Union Assurance Co. Ltd (MUA) were exchanged for a total value of Rs 88.5 million, Rs 22.1 million, Rs 9.4 million, Rs 9.3 million and Rs 5.4 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of MCB, NMHL, SBM, Alteo and MUA closed at Rs 163, Rs 56.50, Rs 83, Rs 28 and Rs 120, respectively, on Monday 22 October 2012.u003c/pu003eu003cp style=text-align: justify;\u003eAn analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 41 stocks figuring on the Official List, 7 moved up during the week, 22 remained stable and 12 went down. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Ciel Textile Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial, Ascencia Ltd, FIDES, Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O), ABC Motors Co Ltd and Mauritius Secondary Industries Ltd. The total return varies from 3.82% to 302.78%. On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a mixed note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average went up 0.11 per cent whilst the NASDAQ composite index went down 1.26 per cent.
