The total return index, SEMTRI, grew by 73.12 points in one week, closing the session of Monday 29 June 2020 at 6,400.10 points. The SEMDEX finished the same session at 1,665.05 points. The SEM10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 314.22 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 91.66 points. At market close of Monday, the total market capitalization of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 295.04 billion.
Total transactions during the week amounted to Rs 522.3 million. The top five trading securities were CM Diversified Credit Ltd, NewGold, MCB Group Limited (MCBG), IBL LTD (IBL) and Eagle Insurance Co. Ltd (EI). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 374.8 million, Rs 52.5 million, Rs 30.2 million, Rs 13 million and Rs 9.4 million respectively. The shares of CM Diversified Credit Ltd, NEWGOLD, MCBG, IBL and EI closed at Rs 1,000.45, Rs 683.00, Rs 236.00, Rs 49.00 and Rs 122.00 respectively on Monday 29 June 2020.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 68 stocks figuring on the Official List, 11 moved up during the week, 41 remained stable and 16 went down. Total transactions on the DEM during the week amounted to Rs 12 million. Market capitalization of the DEM stood at Rs 43.08 billion. The ten best performers in terms of annualized total return are Kolos Cement Ltd, Phoenix Investment Company Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd, ABC Motors Company Ltd, United Bus Service Ltd, Associated Commercial Ltd, Swan Life Ltd, The Bee Equity Partners Ltd, Compagnie Immobilière Limitée and Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée. The total return varies from 16.41% to 22.96%.
On the international front, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ lost 3.31% and 1.90% respectively during the week. In Europe, the DAX, the CAC 40 and the FTSE100 retreated by 1.96%, 1.40% and 2.12% respectively during the same time frame.
