The British Council announces the opening of the Young Journalist of the Year 2014 Competition, which is open to students of secondary schools in Mauritius. Students of both public and private secondary schools are invited to write a 750 word article on “Who is the hero that inspires them to achieve?”

The Young Journalist of the Year Competition is being organised for the fourth consecutive year in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources. The competition is aimed at students in two groups; senior for young people aged 16-19 years old and junior for young people aged 13-15 years old. They are invited to enter the competition by 7 March 2014.

Two participants from the senior category - aged 16 to 19 years old - will be selected to represent Mauritius in Glasgow where they will meet the next generation of young global journalists; in a unique opportunity to connect to the Commonwealth Games, as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme.

Over 14 countries including Jamaica, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Zambia and the UK Home Nations will take part in the conference which will be held at Mitchell Library in Glasgow.
