The University of Mauritius, in partnership with Ducere, will soon deliver a MBA in Innovation and Leadership. This program comprises in-depth industry engagement through real life challenges set by companies and government departments.

Dūcere, an Australian-Based online education provider, recently signed an agreement with the University of Mauritius (UoM) - its first international partner - to deliver, in 2015, a MBA in Innovation and Leadership. This agreement with the UoM heralds a new direction for the education sector in Mauritius as well as the region.

This program will equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become successful, thoughtful leaders and entrepreneurs and create value for both their organisations and their communities, beyond borders. Furthermore, the initiative will help consolidate the position of the UoM as the most prominent higher education provider at regional level, including the African continent.

Mauritius is the perfect launchpad into mainland Africa for many reasons. As a country, it is consistently ranked as Africa’s leader in governance and transparency. In particular, the university and its leadership have an overriding emphasis on student quality and increasing access to education. We are very excited about the partnership with the UoM, both for the local Mauritian market and in developing a significant higher education export market”, says KaileshGunesh, Managing Director of Dūcere Mauritius.

The Dūcere and UoM MBA program seeks to equip students with real-world insights underpinned by relevant business frameworks. By engaging in live industry projects, students develop a practical understanding of how to address and manage challenges faced by businesses, whilst benefitting from the fle-xibility of online delivery. “The partnership will develop a highly innovative and interactive learning experience,” adds KaileshGunesh. Indeed, the program involves extensive collaboration with industry and leadership lessons from over a hundred of the world’s most successful and talented global leaders. Mauritian students will thus be learning from presidents, Prime Ministers, Nobel Prize winners and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from across the globe. So far, a few CEOs and high profile personalities - Jane Valls, ValérieRawat and Pr Romeela Mohee, Vice-Chancellor of the UoM - in Mauritius have committed to join the global faculty.

Through the MBA Innovation and Leadership, students will develop a diverse set of industry-focused skills through real-world application of key business management concepts in order to solve complex industry problems. “The program is a mix of online and face-to-face interaction or, as we say, blended. This means that all the content is available through the most engaging, interactive e-learning platform. But in addition, the human element of networking, team building, alumni, collaborative problem sol-ving is core to the way we deliver education. Students are exposed to a range of levels of expertise, from global leaders, to working on industry challenges, to excellence in academic underpinning.”

Dūcere is planning to work with the UoM in a number of areas that will be mobilizing their respective unique strengths. These MBA programs will reaffirm Australia’s commitment to being a major partner in the development of the region’s overall knowledge hub. And through the partnership with Dūcere, the UoM will be able to bring to students an award-winning world-class knowledge platform, which is complemented by a high calibre global faculty.

The UoM is the oldest and largest university in Mauritius and a highly ranked institution in Africa. This world-class online MBA offering for our students will allow them to become more entrepreneurial whilst having a more innovative approach to building their career and climbing the corporate ladder,” states Pr Romeela Mohee.
