With more than 250 employees, both locally and internationally, Valdus paves its way in HRM and recruitment services in only four years of existence.

Valdus is a leading professional services company that helps organizations improve performance through effective people and HR practices. The company wasset up by Govindah Chinapiel, Managing Director, who after a career of more than 20 years in the human resources, decided to start a new adventure.

I have worked in various organizations both locally and internationally and reaching my peak in my career, I decided to undertake a more challenging role,” he said.

The goal of Govindah Chinapiel was to contribute and share his HR expertise with companies in and outside Mauritius.

As such, four years ago, he sets up Valdus in partnership with international HR professionals to provide tailor-made HR services to all sectors of the economy. The main focus right from the beginning is to support CEOs and their respective HR managers through innovative HR services and implementing best practices in the area of human resources.

Govindah Chinapiel and his partners wanted to create an organization based on spiritual values, “as we all strongly believed that without divine assistance we would not be able to be successful.”

Valdus initially started in January 2011 with three employees. Today, Valdus employs more than 250 persons both locally and internationally, and serves more than 180 companies in Mauritius, Africa and Asia. For its last financial year, the revenue of the company exceeded Rs 90 million. “And this year we are expecting to double our sales figure,” forecasts Govindah Chinapiel.

Valdus assists its customers with a wide range of HR services, processes, programs and practices in order to maximize the client’s performance. “Our consultants guide clients through the challenges confronting them today and prepare them for tomorrow,” he underlines.

The services of Valdus range from very small-scale such as recruitment services to very complex projects such as mergers and acquisitions, as well as performance management.

Future target: the African market

Valdus values effort and ambition. In that respect, the company started a few years ago to explore markets outside Mauritius, mostly in the African region. “So far, we have completed some very successful HR projects in Africa and we will definitely keep on accentuating our efforts in that region. One area which we have been very successful is in capturing the HR functional outsourcing contracts with many organizations, which meant a great historic achievement in managing HR function and outsourcing of it. Today we are the people who are synonymous with HR function outsourcing. We redefined the way the HR function management is outsourced since the last few years. We have already embarked in various HR projects in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia and other African countries. We have also recently created a new sister company, Siegen Consulting. It is providing us great support mostly in areas of mergers and acquisitions as well as HR Process reengineering, which is in high demand in the African region,” says Govindah Chinapiel.

What about 2015? “We are looking at 2015 as a year with lots of challenges with many pro-jects in the pipeline, which consist mostly of new and innovative HR services to meet the demand of organizations,” reveals Govindah Chinapiel. This is in line with the role of HR managers/directors continuing transition from being a transactional partner to a strategic one, driven alongside the trends around growth and globalization, and having to do a lot more with less. Valdus is also currently working on a web-based platform which, according to his General Manager, will give a new impetus in recruiting services and human resources management.
