Good governance and accountability are essential to accelerate economic growth, says Olivia Kirtley, the recently appointed president of the International Federation of Accountants, who is presently in Mauritius in the context of third Africa Congress of Accountants (ACOA) 2015 currently taking place in the country under the theme ‘Rising Africa - Partnering for Results.The accountancy profession can assist in Africa’s economic growth, she says, as they have a critical role to play as both trusted advisors to governments and stewards of the public interest in ensuring Africa’s economic growth. Improved transparency will help to open up greater foreign direct investment and regional trade. Intra-African trade can help African countries become more competitive and better able to combat external financial shocks, she further adds.
