Local market ends week in positive territory

The local stock market registered gains during the week (30 May - 6 June 2016).The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI progressed by 0.72% and 0.78% respectively at the end of the days under review.
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, gained 46.12 points during the week, ending the session of Monday 6 June 2016 at 5,983.78 points. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,757.53 points. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 340.17 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 98.83 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 199.65 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions during the week amounted to Rs 152.7 million. The top five traded securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), MUA Notes, CIEL Limited (CIEL) and Lux Island Resorts Ltd (Lux). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 59.3 million, Rs 13.6 million, Rs 9.9 million, Rs 9.3 million and Rs 7.8 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, SBMH, MUA Notes, CIEL and Lux closed at Rs 213.00, Re 0.67, Rs 10,662.23, Rs 6.18 and Rs 57.00 on Monday 6 June 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 63 stocks figuring on the Official List, 16 moved up during the week, 30 remained stable and 17 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Automatic Systems Ltd (+14.92%), Mauritius Union Assurance Co. Ltd (+5.60%), MCB Group Ltd (+2.28%), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (+1.98%) and Rogers & Co. Ltd (+1.89%). The worst performers were: POLICY Ltd (-5.52%), ENL Commercial Ltd (-3.70%), CMPL Ltée (-3.41%), Omnicane Ltd (-2.75%) and CIM Financial Services Ltd (- 2.01%).
