Market ends week up amid heavy trading

The local stock market was characterized by a gain in indices amid heavy trading. The SEM-ASI and the SEMTRI-ASI gained 0.20% and 0.54% respectively at the end of the days under review (7 - 14 November 2016).
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI-ASI, registered a gain of 33.68 points in one week, closing the session of Monday 14th November 2016 at 6,295.63 points. The all-share index, SEM-ASI, ended the same session at 1,834.93 points.
The SEMDEX and the Total Return Index, SEMTRI, ended Monday’s session at 1,802.60 points and 6,246.47 points respectively. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 343.82 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 99.78 points. The total market capitalisation of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 333.87 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions amounted to Rs 288 million during the week. The top five trading securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), Lux Island Resorts Ltd, Omnicane Series 3 Notes and Terra Mauricia Ltd (TERA). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 148 million, Rs 32.8 million, Rs 16.3 million, Rs 13.5 million and Rs 9.8 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, SBMH, Lux, OMNI Notes and TERA closed at Rs 213.00, Rs 6.80, Rs 59.50, Rs 10,524.70 and Rs 30.00 respectively on Monday 14th November 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 64 stocks figuring on the Official List, 15 moved up during the week, 36 remained stable and 13 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Air Mauritius Ltd (+8.46%), Belle Mare Holding Ltd (+7.50%), Alteo Ltd (+6.06%), Phoenix Beverages Ltd (+4.94%) and New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (+4.62%). The worst performers were: Caudan Development Ltd (-4%), MCFI Ltd (-3.05%), MCB Group Ltd (-2.29%), Promotion and Development Ltd (-2.12%) and CIM Financial Services Ltd (-1.42%).
