Market ends week down

The local stock market was marked by a fall in market indices during the week (28 March - 4 April 2016). The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI went down -0.29% and 0.22% respectively at the end of the days under review.
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday 4 April 2016 at 6,084.60 points, losing 13.71 points during the week. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,795.38 points against 1,800.55 points on Monday 28 March. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 344.49 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended last Monday’s session at 98.35 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 203.07 billion at market close on that day.
Total transactions during the week amounted to Rs 226.9 million. The top five tradedsecurities were: Alteo Ltd (ALTEO), MCB Group Ltd (MCBG),Mauritius Union Assurance Co. Ltd (MUA), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH) and New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 103.4 million, Rs 71 million, Rs 14 million, Rs 8.8 million and Rs 6 million respectively. The shares of ALTEO, MCBG, MUA, SBMH and NMHL closed at Rs 27.00, Rs 206.50, Rs 61.25, Re 0.67 and Rs 22.40 on Monday 4 April 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 58 stocks figuring on the Official List, 12 moved up during the week, 32 remained stable and 14 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were:Terra Mauricia Ltd (+5.08%), Automatic Systems Ltd (+5.00%),Mauritius Union Assurance Co. Ltd (+3.81%), Sun Limited(+2.37%) andBelle Mare Holding Ltd (+2.00%). The worst performers were: Lottotech Ltd (-12.73%),Promotion and Development Ltd (-4.66), Delta International Property Holdings Ltd (- 3.33%) SBM Holdings Ltd (-2.90%) and Swan General Ltd (-1.92%).
