Market ends week in negative territory

The local stock market ended in negative territory the week under review (14-21 September 2015).The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI went down -0.34% at the end of these days.

The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday 21st September 2015 at 6,404.57 points, losing 21.69 points during the week. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,919.20 points against 1,925.70 points on Monday 14 September. The SEM-10 index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 366.10 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, finished at 99.28 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 213.72 billion at market close on Monday.

Total transactions amounted to Rs 231.6 million during the week. The top traded companies were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL), Phoenix Beverages Ltd (PBL) and New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 69.4 million, Rs 37.7 million, Rs 27.6 million, Rs 23.8 million and Rs 16 million. The shares of MCBG, SBMH, IBL, PBL and NMHL closed at Rs 209.00, Rs 0.86, Rs 112.00, Rs 400.00 and Rs 18.00 on Monday 21st September 2015.
