Market ends week in a stabilisation mode

The stock market was marked by a stabilisation of the market indices during the week. The SEM-ASI lost -0.03 % whereas the SEMTRI-ASIgained 0.03% at the end of the days under review (5 - 12 December 2016).
The all-share index, SEM-ASI, ended the session of Monday 12th December 2016 at 1,856.37 points, against 1,856.95 points last Monday. The Total Return Index, SEMTRI-ASI, ended the same session at 6,392.45 points. The SEMDEX and The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, ended Monday’s session at 1,810.49 points and 6,303.24 points respectively. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 345.59 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 99.99 points. The total market capitalisation of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 338.72 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions amounted to Rs 137.8 million during the week. The top five trading securities were:MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), United Basalt Products Ltd (UBP), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), LUX* Island Resorts Ltd (Lux) and Sun Limited (SUN). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 56.3 million, Rs 17.6 million, Rs 10.3 million, Rs 10.3 million and Rs 7.4 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, UBP, SBM, Lux and SUN closed at Rs 213.75, Rs 96.00, Rs 6.68, Rs 59.50 and Rs 34.85 respectively on Monday 12th December 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 65 stocks figuring on the Official List, 18 moved up during the week, 35 remained stable and 12 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were:Automatic Systems Ltd (+15.09%), BlueLife Limited (+12.20%), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (+5.13%), CIM Financial Services Ltd (+4.61%) and MCFI Ltd (+4.29%). The worst performers were: Compagnie des Magasins Populaires Ltée (-10.20%), Mara Delta Property Holdings Ltd (USD) (-4.02%), Mauritius Oil Refineries Ltd (-3.57%), Alteo Ltd (-3.11%) and Air Mauritius Ltd (-2.76%).
