The local stock market was marked by some volatility in the principal indices during the week. The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI dropped -1% and -0.34% respectively at the end of the days under review (6-13 July 2015).
The All-share index, SEMDEX, lost 1% during the week, closing the session of Monday 13th July 2015 at 1,945.05 points. The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, lost 21.78 points in one week, closing the session of Monday at 6,474.38 points. The SEM-10 index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 369.59 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 216.25 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions amounted to Rs 277.5 million during the week. The top five traded securities during the week were: Sun Resorts Ltd (SUN), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), Mauritius Oil Refineries Ltd (MOR) and New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 123.4 million, Rs 43.7 million, Rs 31.1 million, Rs 13.8 million and Rs 7.8 million. The shares of SUN, SBMH, MCBG, MOR and NMHL closed at Rs 43.50, Re 0.87, Rs 209.75, Rs 27.50 and Rs 18.95 on Monday 13th July 2015.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 52 stocks figuring on the Official List, 6 moved up during the week, 27 remained stable and 19 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Phoenix Beverages Ltd (+11.11%), Gamma-Civic Ltd (+4.81%), ENL Land Ltd (+2.75%), MCFI Ltd (+1.78%) and Promotion and Development Ltd (+1.05%). The worst performers were: CIM Financial Services Ltd (-15.79%), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (-5.25%), Air Mauritius Ltd (-4.55%), Mauritius Union Assurance Ltd (-3.54%) and United Basalt Products Ltd (-3.53%).
