Market finishes on a positive note

The local market finished the week on a positive note. The SEM-ASI lost -0.13% whereas the SEMTRI gained 0.27% at the end of the days under review (3 - 10 October 2016).
The all share index, SEM-ASI ended the session of Monday 10 October 2016 at 1,851.79 points. The SEMTRI-ASI, launched on Monday 10 October 2016, closed at 6,324.18 points. The SEMDEX closed the same session at 1,837.52 points against 1,832.49 points last Monday. The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday at 6,328.82 points, registering a gain of 17.31 points in one week. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 351.40 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 103.02 points. The total market capitalisation of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 336 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions amounted to Rs 168 million during the week. The top five trading securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), CIEL Limited, SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL) and Mauritius Union Assurance Co. Ltd (MUA). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 62.5 million, Rs 29.1 million, Rs 25.1 million, Rs 11.2 million and Rs 7 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, CIEL, SBMH, NMHL and MUA closed at Rs 223.00, Rs 5.98, Rs 0.70, Rs 19.90 and Rs 63.50 on Monday 10 October 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 64 stocks figuring on the Official List, 13 moved up during the week, 40 remained stable and 11 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: National Investment Trust Ltd (+8.95%), Lottotech Limited (+5.71%), Gamma-Civic Ltd (+2.33%), United Basalt Products Ltd (+2.30%) and Air Mauritius Ltd (+2.21%). The worst performers were: MDIT Ltd (-1.73%), Alteo Ltd (-1.46%), Rogers & Co. Ltd (-1.07%), Caudan Development Ltd (-1.01%) and Sun Resorts Ltd (-0.87%).
