Market’s slide continues during the week

The local stock market again lost ground during the week (23-30 March 2016). The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI went down -0.58% and -0.36% respectively at the end of the days under review.
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, ended the session of Monday 30 May 2016 at 5,937.66 points, registering a fall of 21.37 points in one week. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,744.90 points against 1,755.06 points a week earlier. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 336.52 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 97.28 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 197.36 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions during the week amounted to Rs 126.2 million, The top five traded securities were: Rockcastle Real Estate Co. Ltd (ROCK), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), Alteo Ltd (ALT) and Lux Island Resorts Ltd (Lux). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 51.2 million, Rs 26.2 million, Rs 13.5 million, Rs 5.8 million and Rs 4 million respectively. The shares of ROCK, SBMH, MCB, ALT and Lux closed at USD 2.26, Rs 0.68, Rs 208.25, Rs 25.80 and Rs 56.50 on Monday 30 May 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 62 stocks figuring on the Official List, 8 moved up during the week, 35 remained stable and 19 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Lottotech Ltd (+4.88%), Rogers & Co. Ltd (1.92%), POLICY Ltd (+1.75%), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (P) (+1.33%) and MCB Group Ltd (+1.09%). The worst performers were: BlueLife Ltd (-23.08%), Sanlam Africa Core Real Estate Investments Ltd (-9.09%), ENL Land Ltd (-5.72%), ENL Land Ltd (P) (-5.71%) and United Docks Ltd (- 5%).
