The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday 19 November 2012 at 5,078.05 points, shedding 17.28 points during the week. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed at 1,653.98 points. The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 318.84 points. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 167.28 billion.

Total turnover amounted to Rs 207.4 million during the week. Shares of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), Phoenix Beverages Ltd (PBL), CIM Financial Services Ltd (CIM), Alteo Ltd and Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL) were exchanged for a total value of Rs 72.8 million, Rs 46.4 million, Rs 32.6 million, Rs 11.3 million and Rs 11.1 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of MCB, PBL, CIM, Alteo and IBL closed at Rs 162, Rs 202, Rs 5.35, Rs 29 and Rs 76.50, respectively, on Monday 19 November 2012.

An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 42 stocks figuring on the Official List, 10 moved up during the week, 12 remained stable and 20 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Caudan Development Ltd (+4.76%), Bramer Banking Corporation Ltd (+3.57%), ENL Commercial Ltd (+2.94%), Innodis Ltd (+2.07%) and Plastic Industry (Mtius) Ltd (+2.03%). The worst performers were: Go Life International PCC (-42.86%), Rogers & Co Ltd (-7.14%), National Investment Trust Ltd (-5.45%), ENL Land Ltd (-4.76%) and Fincorp Investment Ltd (-4.11%).

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), at market close on Monday, the two indices, the DEMEX and the DEMTRI, closed at 140.55 points and 163.98 points, respectively. Market capitalization stood at Rs 42.08 billion. A total volume of 1.11 million shares for a total value of Rs 14.45 million has been traded during the week. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Ciel Textile Ltd, ABC Motors, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial, Ascencia Ltd, United Bus Service Ltd, FIDES and Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O). The total return varies from 5.43% to 302.78%. On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a negative note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ composite index went down 1.77 per cent and 1.78 per cent, respectively. In Europe, Germany’s DAX, Britain’s FTSE and France CAC 40 lost 2.97 per cent, 2.84 per cent and 2.40 per cent during the week.
