The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday 5 November 2012 at 5,109.24 points, losing 26.93 points during the week. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed at 1,664.14 points. The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 319.99 points. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 168.31 billion.

Total turnover amounted to Rs 244.8 million during the week. Shares of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), Phoenix Beverages Ltd (PBL), CIM Financial Services Ltd (CIM), Omnicane Ltd and New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL) were exchanged for a total value of Rs 56.6 million, Rs 56 million, Rs 31.3 million, Rs 17.7 million and Rs 16.5 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of MCB, PBL, CIM, Omnicane Ltd and NMHL closed at Rs 162, Rs 201, Rs 5.10, Rs 75.50 and Rs 54, respectively, on Monday 5 November 2012.

An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 42 stocks figuring on the Official List, 10 moved up during the week, 16 remained stable and 16 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Belle Mare Holding Ltd (+5.26%), Air Mauritius Ltd (+3%), Mauritian Eagle Insurance Ltd (+2.74%), Mauritius Union Assurance Co. Ltd (+2.48%) and Lux Island Resorts Ltd (+1.33%). The worst performers were: Bramer Banking Corporation Ltd (-5.45%), Harel Mallac Ltd (-5.30%), State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (-4.22%), United Docks Ltd (-3.42%) and Gamma-Civic Ltd (-3.13%).

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), at market close on Monday, the two indices, the DEMEX and the DEMTRI, closed at 143.12 points and 166.97 points, respectively. Market capitalization stood at Rs 42.85 billion. A total volume of 552,424 shares for a total value of Rs 29.22 million has been traded during the week. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, Ciel Textile Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial, Ascencia Ltd, Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O), FIDES, ABC Motors Co Ltd and Mauritius Secondary Industries Ltd. The total return varies from 3.82% to 302.78%. On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a mixed note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ composite index went down 0.11 per cent and 0.19 per cent, respectively. In Europe, Germany’s DAX, Britain’s FTSE and France CAC 40 gained 1.83 per cent, 1.67 per cent and 1.06 per cent during the week.
