Market finishes in negative territory

The local stock market ended the week in negative territory. The SEMDEX and the SEMTRI lost 0.43% at the end of the days under review (13 - 20 June 2016).
The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, lost 25.56 points during the week, ending the session of Monday 20 June 2016 at 5,954.34 points. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed the same session at 1,746.62 points. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 337.72 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 99.26 points. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 198.41 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions during the week amounted to Rs 193.1 million. The top five traded securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), ENL Land Ltd, SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), Lux Island Resorts Ltd (Lux) and CIEL Limited (CIEL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 98.9 million, Rs 16.8 million, Rs 11.8 million, Rs 11.6 million and Rs 10.8 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, ENL Land, SBMH, Lux and CIEL closed at Rs 213.00, Rs 39.50, Rs 0.65, Rs 58.75 and Rs 6.20 on Monday 20 June 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 63 stocks figuring on the Official List, 8 moved up during the week, 38 remained stable and 17 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Caudan Development Ltd (+5.13%), Vivo Energy Mauritius Ltd (+3.21%), Phoenix Beverages Ltd (+2.18%), Air Mauritius Ltd (+1.63%) and Lux Island Resorts Ltd (+0.86%).
