The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, gained 77.05 points during the week to close the session of Monday 3 December 2012 at 5,211.83 points. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed at 1,688.11 points. The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 328.20 points. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 170.73 billion.

Total turnover amounted to Rs 100 million during the week. Shares of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), CIM Financial Services Ltd (CIM), State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (SBM), Alteo Ltd and Rogers & Co. Ltd were exchanged for a total value of Rs 41.5 million, Rs 13 million, Rs 10.3 million, Rs 4.4 million and Rs 4 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of MCB, CIM, SBM, Alteo and Rogers closed at Rs 161, Rs 5.35, Rs 89.50, Rs 30.30 and Rs 140, respectively, on Monday 3 December 2012.

An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 42 stocks figuring on the Official List, 11 moved up during the week, 21 remained stable and 10 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (+7.83%), Fincorp Investment Ltd (+4.03%), Plastic Industry (Mauritius) (+3.31%), Lux Island Resorts Ltd (+2.04%) and Promotion and Development Ltd (+1.79%). The worst performers were: Go Life International PCC (-16.67%), POLICY Ltd (-4%), Bramer Banking Corporation Ltd (-3.23%), Automatic Systems Ltd (-3.08%) and National Investment Trust Ltd (-2.44%).

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), at market close on Monday, the two indices, the DEMEX and the DEMTRI, closed at 143.10 points and 167.13 points, respectively. Market capitalization stood at Rs 42.85 billion. A total volume of 1.42 million shares for a total value of Rs 17.24 million has been traded during the week. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, ABC Motors, Ciel Textile Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial Ltd, Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O), United Bus Service Ltd, FIDES and Mauritius Secondary Industries Ltd. The total return varies from 3.82% to 302.78%.

On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a positive note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ composite index went up 0.12 per cent and 1.46 per cent, respectively. In Europe, Germany’s DAX, Britain’s FTSE and France CAC 40 gained 1.32 per cent, 0.82 per cent and 0.81per cent during the week.
