Market posts gains during the week

The local stock market posted gains during the week. The SEM-ASI and the SEMTRI lost 0.53% and 0.9% respectively at the end of the days under review (19 - 26 September 2016).
The all-share index, SEM-ASI, ended the session of Monday 26th September 2016 at 1,825.45 points, gaining 9.54 points during the week. The SEMDEX closed the same session at 1,810.36 points. The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday at 6,235.29 points, registering a gain of 55.78 points in one week. The SEM-10 Index, which comprises the ten largest and most liquidstocks, closed at 346.13 points. The SEM sustainability index, SEMSI, ended the same day at 100.45 points. The total market capitalisation of the SEM-ASI constituents stood at Rs 325.48 billion at market close on Monday.
Total transactions amounted to Rs 154.2 million during the week. The top five trading securities were: MCB Group Ltd (MCBG), SBM Holdings Ltd (SBMH), CIM Financial Services Ltd (CIM), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL) and CIEL Limited (CIEL). They were exchanged for a total value of Rs 57.4 million, Rs 23.4 million, Rs 14.2 million, Rs 11.7 million and Rs 9.9 million respectively. The shares of MCBG, SMBM, CIM, NMHL and CIEL closed at Rs 213.25, Rs 0.69, Rs 7.00, Rs 20.15 and Rs 6.06 on Monday 26th September 2016.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 64 stocks figuring on the Official List, 12 moved up during the week, 43 remained stable and 9 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were:SBM Holdings Ltd (+2.99%), MCB Group Ltd (+2.52%), Vivo Energy MauritiusLtd (+2.33%), Mauritius Oil Refineries Ltd (+1.73%) and Promotion and Development Ltd (+1.55%).
