Chinese multinational computer technology company Lenovo has tied up with Elytis to make its products available to small and medium-sized businesses in Mauritius. The first shipment is due to reach the market around mid-June.

Hardware and software products regional distributor Elytis has recently tied up with Chinese multinational computer technology company Lenovo for the distribution of products targeting the small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) market in Mauritius.

Andre Smit, Channel Sales Manager of Lenovo for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, observes that the potential for growth in Mauritius is good. “The market is mature when compared to other countries that I work with and this is why we are making the move in establishing a proper channel here,” he says.

The products to be available on the market as from mid-June are the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E50-70 Notebook, the ThinkPad Yoga 3 Tablet (14") and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon convertible laptop.

Unlike other business notebooks, the Lenovo E50-70 does not compromise on resolution with its optional full HD (1920 X 1080) display and houses up to 4th generation Intel Core to increase productivity. It also encourages multitasking and wireless collaboration through high quality videoconference calls with the convenience of a longer battery life (up to six hours) and includes up to 1TB HDD storage.

The Lenovo Yoga 3 comes with Windows 8.1 and can be used in multiple ways given that it is an adaptable PC. It features four different ways to use it, namely Laptop, Stand, Tent or Tablet owing to its unique design and touchscreen display allowing the screen to flip around 360 degrees. Along with its thin and light design, starting at 3.5 pounds and 0.7", the Yoga 3 is ultraportable and perfect for doers on the go.

As for the Lenovo X1 Carbon, it is the thinnest ThinkPad ever built but one of the most powerful fighters in its lightweight class. It comes with an extra-long battery life - up to 10.9 hours with integrated RapidCharge battery technology (50Whr).

With these products, Lenovo is targeting at least 10 per cent of market share among SMBs by next year. “I trust Lenovo not because I work for them but they stand out through their durability as I may judge from my previous experiences with other brands. The tough aspect of Lenovo is the brand’s number one selling argument,” Andre Smit asserts.

Looking forward, the Channel Sales Manager states that users can expect a lot of innovation since the company is currently investing heavily in research and development in order to make an impact on the market.

Lenovo is one of the world’s leading personal technology companies, producing innovative PCs and mobile internet devices. It is currently the number one technology brand in South Africa in terms of units sold. Ranked 286th on Fortune Global 500 list, Lenovo is the world’s largest PC vendor and fourth largest smartphone company.

While the brand came into existence only in 2004, the company has a much longer history. In 1984, Legend Holdings was formed with 200,000 RMB (US$ 25,000) in a guard house in China. The company was incorporated in Hong Kong in 1988 and would grow to be the largest PC company in China. Legend Holdings changed its name to Lenovo in 2004 and in 2005, acquired the former Personal Computer Division of IBM, one of the pioneers of the PC industry.

Today, Lenovo is a $ 39 billion personal technology company with more than 54,000 employees (including joint ventures) in over 60 countries and has customers in over 160 countries. It is incorporated and headquartered in Hong Kong, with operational centres around the world, the largest ones being in Beijing and Morrisville.

Lenovo currently owns the greatest track record for innovation in the PC industry, consistently winning awards and receiving laudatory reviews. Innovation is how it achieves competitive differentiation and drives new market opportunities, such as mobile Internet, Digital Home and cloud computing.
