The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 331.96 points on Monday. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 172.86 billion. Total turnover amounted to Rs 203.5 million during the week.

Shares of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (SBM), Rogers & Co. Ltd, New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMH) and Alteo Ltd were exchanged for a total value of Rs 130.7 million, Rs 13.7 million, Rs 11.3 million, Rs 8.9 million and Rs 6.9 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of MCB, SBM, Rogers, NMH and Alteo closed at Rs 169, Rs 89, Rs 150, Rs 52 and Rs 32, respectively, on Monday 17 December 2012.

An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 42 stocks figuring on the Official List, 17 moved up during the week, 11 remained stable and 14 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: Alteo Ltd (+4.92%), Caudan Development Ltd (+4.55%), Bramer Banking Corporation Ltd (+4.20%), Promotion and Development Ltd (+3.33%) and Swan Insurance Co. Ltd (+2.75%). The worst performers were: Go Life International PCC Ltd (-20%), Harel Mallac Ltd (-9.60%), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (-6.31%), ENL land Ltd (-3.66%) and Belle Mare Holding Ltd (-3.50%).

The following data highlights the ten best performing stocks in terms of annualised total returns since their listing on the stock exchange.

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), at market close on Monday, the two indices, the DEMEX and the DEMTRI, closed at 145.75 points and 170.50 points, respectively. Market capitalization stood at Rs 43.64 billion. A total volume of 5.78 million shares for a total value of Rs 48.81 million has been traded during the week. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, ABC Motors, Ciel Textile Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial, Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O), United Bus Service Ltd, FIDES and The Anglo Mauritius Society Ltd. The total return varies from 5.90% to 335.19%.

On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a mixed note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ Composite index ended down 0.15 per cent and 0.23 per cent, respectively. In Europe, Germany’s DAX, Britain’s FTSE and France CAC 40 gained 1.05 per cent, 0.13 per cent and 1.04 per cent during the week.
