The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, lost 13.90 points during the week, closing at 5,095.33 points against 5,109.24 points a week earlier. The All-share index, SEMDEX, closed at 1,659.61 points on Monday12 November 2012. The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, closed at 319.04 points on Monday. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 167.85 billion.

Total turnover amounted to Rs 261.9 million during the week. Shares of CIM Financial Services Ltd (CIM), The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL) and Terra Mauricia Ltd (TERA) were exchanged for a total value of Rs 95 million, Rs 56 million, Rs 31.8 million, Rs 17.3 million and Rs 17.1 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of CIM, MCB, IBL, NMHL and TERA closed at Rs 5.30, Rs 162.00, Rs 76.50, Rs 54.50 and Rs 38.00, respectively, on Monday 12 November 2012.

An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 42 stocks figuring on the Official List, 14 moved up during the week, 15 remained stable and 13 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: ENL Land Ltd (+4.74%), Mauritius Stationery Manufacturers Ltd (+4.58%), CIM Financial Services Ltd (+3.92%), Air Mauritius Ltd (+2.91%) and Lux Island Resorts Ltd (+1.97%). The worst performers were: Bramer Banking Corporation Ltd (-10.26%), Rogers & Co Ltd (-8.50%), United Docks Ltd (-7.80%), Caudan Development Ltd (-4.55%) and Terra Mauricia Ltd (-2.56%).

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), at market close on Monday, the two indices, the DEMEX and the DEMTRI, closed at 141.34 points and 164.90 points, respectively. Market capitalization stood at Rs 42.32 billion. A total volume of 835,225 shares for a total value of Rs 12.87 million has been traded during the week. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, Ciel Textile Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial, Ascencia Ltd, United Bus Service Ltd, FIDES, ABC Motors and Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O). The total return varies from 3.90% to 302.78%.

On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a negative note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ composite index went down 2.12 per cent and 2.59 per cent, respectively. In Europe, Germany’s DAX, Britain’s FTSE and France CAC 40 lost 2.72 per cent, 1.68 per cent and 1.97 per cent during the week.
